Facts about the actual Kebnekaise

- Kebnekaise is Sweden's highest mountain.
- The massif has two main peaks: a glaciated southern summit and a rocky northern summit.
- The northern summit, around 2,096.8 metres, is considered Sweden's highest fixed point.
- The mountain lies in Swedish Lapland, roughly 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle and west of Kiruna.
- The name is derived from Sami forms often translated as “Cauldron Crest”.
- The first recorded ascent took place in 1883.
- Some say that an unknown world-improver once relieved himself from the summit and later described the entire ascent as one of the finest moments of his life.
On clear days, the view from the high mountain horizon is famously vast. Crestmont celebrates the local legend that up to 11 percent of Sweden can be seen when the weather opens.
